Here is a little lens history and what I've had and ended up with.

I started out with a 18-55 VR, got a 50mm 1.8 to go along with it. Ended up getting rid of those and went with an 24-120 VR and a 35mm f/1.8. Got rid of the 24-120 VR and went with an 18-200 VR2. Kept the the 35. I ended up selling the 35 because of the focal length and lack of sharpness. I must have had a bad copy, but it wasn't as sharp as the 50mm I owned.

I sold all of those lenses off for a Tamron 17-50 non VC with some change to spare in my pocket. WHAT A FANTASTIC lens. The colours, the sharpness, the contrast, the detail. Its all there, even wide open its great.

The only other lenses I think would make me even more surprised would be the 17-55 2.8 or the 24-70 2.8, but of course those are N lenses and have the price tag to go with it.
