thanks for al the opinions

after reading the 30-plus here, i think i can come up with the following conclusion;

from a purely techincal point of view (correctly focused, well exposed), the better camera will help - provided there is the (basic) technical skill to use it. thats not to say that its impossible to use inferior kit - just that you are almost gauranteed to have more "keepers" with the better kit (and that knowledge of course).

From an "artistic" point of view, the camera model is basically irrelevant. perhaps a tilting screen and quiet shutter would help, but really not much more than that.

it seems to me that all photography is a combination of artistry and technical know-how.
