NEX Record 1080p PROGRESSIVE AVCHD only
Jul 19, 2010

NEX does not shoot interlaced video at all, the current NEX3/5 and the upcoming Camcorder only shoots PROGRESSIVE AVCHD

Almost every Canon HD camcorder shoot their PROGRESSIVE media and hold the data into interlaced media file for easier compatibility reasons.

It's called PSF, you can read about it in here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_segmented_frame

The result is identical to Native PROGRESSIVE and if you open NEX files in any video editor it will report 1920x1080p 30 FRAME instead of 60 because it's PROGRESSIVE

You can download NEX AVCHD sample from here and test it yourself
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/NEX5/NEX5VIDEO.HTM

I don't understand why almost every review complain about the NEX video being interlaced when it's not, have you people ever played interlaced video on your PC LCD? if you did you would know NEX does not shoot interlaced, interlaced videos are ugly and not worth watching in my opinion.

If you want native PROGRESSIVE the NEX also shoot 1440x1080p MP4

People need to understand that Native 1080p30 will never happen with AVCHD because the AVCHD codec does not support 1080p30, it only does 1080p24/1080i60 so Recording 1080p30 and saving it in 1080i60 media file is the away to get around the AVCHD codec limits.

EVERY camcorder that shoot AVCHD and 1080p30 does that (Canon entire HF/HF S Range etc)
