Stiff Polarizing Filter

When I have a filter that is too stiff to turn, I place a drop of WD-40 on the rim and rotate the filter multiple times. Takes care of the problem and have never had any problem with getting it on the filter.
This works for a while but stiffens up again.
Anybody have a better suggestion.
