New Computer Build
Jul 16, 2010
I was just ready to build a new computer with an Intel i7-930 processor when the sales person at the computer store said that the upcoming Intel processor will not be compatible with my new (Gigabyte GA-X58-UD3R) motherboard, if I plan to later upgrade. The upcoming processor will be on a smaller die and will not fit the slot.
My reason for building a new computer is that my Core Duo E6600 is a little slow doing video rendering (especially HD videos) and photo editing.
Question is: What is the thinking on how fast the new processor will be (equivalent pricing)? That much faster or better? I plan to keep the computer I build for 3 years (and maybe by then newer and faster and cheaper will be worth the wait).
Thank you for any help
