Would you choose a D40 as a 2nd cam to a D700?

I'm posting this in the D3/D700 forum because I currently have a D700 and used to have a D40 which I (foolishly I think) sold a year ago. I now have a yearning for a smaller/lighter cam again for those times the D700 might be too cumbersome.

For daylight use, would you still choose a like new or refurbished D40 over the more recent offerings (D3000, D60, etc)? I dont plan to re-purchase DX lenses for it so it will make due with what AF-S FX lenses I have now (24-70 2.8, 16-35 4, 70-300VR & 24-120VR).

For outdoor daylight use I feel compelled to pick up a D40 as I enjoyed it when I used to have one. Anyone else using a D700/D40 combo?
