Blown away by 4x5

I was blown away by the cover photo on last Sunday's NY Times Magazine. If you haven't seen it, Google Simon Norfolk to see his photos.. Such resolution, such smooth tonality. I wasn't surprised to discover it was taken with 4x5 view camera (that's 4x5 inches, not cm). I'm just a sucker for such hi-res photos but I can't see lugging around a view camera and accessories, not to mention all the lab work involved.

Fifty years ago, I shot film with a Nikon F. Today, I use a 40D and 7D and don't see much difference except of course much less post production involved. Jeez, we can put a man on the moon, why can't we get 4X5 quality in a 35mm dslr? That day may come but I probably won't live to see it. Wonder if a view camera can capture BIF?

There is a fine line between a non sequitur and merely changing the subject.
