How Prevalent is the G11 Lens Scratch Problem?

I was all set to purchase a G11 to use for a travel camera. Then I read about the lens scratch issue with the lens cover blades perhaps being too close to the lens surface and now I am a bit hesitant. How common is this problem? I have read the threads on this forum about this problem but it is quite difficult to gauge how frequently it occurs.
