V. easy. On the PL1 the red movie button can become a switch between MF and SAF.

In A priority you choose say f/5.6-8. With the Fn button set to AFL, you take a simple focus reading at 3m. and it stays there (just don't check lens reset), not even if you shut down the camera.

So it's very quick to switch from AF to Manual mode, and hyperrfocal. Ideal for shooting from the hip or blind.

Takes some exercise to predict the framing, but the largest the FOV the closest you can get to your targets without their noticing.
