Travel to Lisbon ...

Using the search feature, I see that several forum members have been to Lisbon, Portugal with nice camera gear. I'm going to Lisbon soon and wanted take my K10D and a few lenses ... one of my favorites being the Sigma 100-300 / f4. I have two questions if anyone can provide advice:

1) Some travel sites warn against taking expensive camera gear to Lisbon. I've been around the world a bit, so I do understand that this warning applies to just about every major city, but wanted feedback from people who have been to Lisbon.

2) Is there any real use in taking the Sigma 100-300? I could take the Pentax 50-200 instead.
