Do we over-discuss technical aspect of a shot?
Jul 10, 2010

There seems to be too much discussion about the technical aspects of a shot. "I detect a slight blue overcast" or some thing of that nature. Maybe it's because of Photoshop and all the other programs that allow so much flexibilty to change a shot or "improve" it. That was only possible to a small degree with film.

When I look at a picture someone took, I know immediately if I like it or not. Within a second or two. It jumps out. I get an "ooh" or "ahh" feeling, and possibly a smile. It makes me feel good. If that doesn't happen, no matter how good technically, the shot fails. The shot is good in spite of the "picky" things. Frankly, I don't notice them. Or care.

Anyway that's my take on this. What's yours?
