I have the Sony 18-250 which is a rebranded Tamron and it is indeed very good. Optically it seems to be the best of the superzooms (unless you include the Canon 18-200 in the mix). However, on my Sony it's stabilized (due to SteadyShot in body). I cannot imagine using a superzoom hand held without stabilization, which is why I haven't purchased a Canon mount version.

You'll face image quality tradeoffs anyway with a superzoom. If the extra utility is worth that to you I think you'd be happier with a stabilized one such as the Tamron 18-270 VC or the Sigma 18-250 OS.

So far I'm using a combination of the 28-135 "kit" lens and 17-40L.
