malaysia: photographic (and safe) places to go
Jul 3, 2010

thinking of this year's 5 month trip to se asia, i am expecting to spend more time in malaysia. (i was in kl for a week last year.)

especially after reading tash ah's excellent book the gift of rain, i am interested in visiting more places. from the book, ipoh and penang seem like obvious places.

i am tempted to go to saba and sarawak, but am a bit afraid because of the chance of getting denge fever or malaria, and because of the danger to photographic equipment from the humidity, and possibility of theft (last year i had only lx3 and tz5, rather than g1, gf1, and lenses).

so rather than limit myself too much without reason, i am wondering, if anyone here has been there, if someone else would agree that there is too much danger or not.

i am 69, but in good shape, and spend most of my time walking around and taking pictures.
thanks for any help you can give me.
