Hi guys...

currently am using a 50mm f1.4 to shoot my baby boy....

am thinking of getting the 100mm f2.8 L macro to dual purpose and letting go my 50mm... do you think its a wise choice to use the 100mm f2.8 L as a baby portrait lens?... currently i am pretty satisfied with the 50mm but pocket does'nt allow me to hold on to both...

People use everywhere from 24mm to 300mm for portraits. It depends on what you like and how you shoot. Longer lenses tend to flatter a face and are good for head shots. 135mm was the standard portrait lens for upper body and face.

You have to take the space available into account as well.

On my 5d MK II, I'd use 85mm to get a full body, and 135mm to get upper body. 100mm might be half body, but it all depends on distance.
