you need a battery grip AND a Canon wrist strap

I have the 28-300 as my walk around lens. Yes it is really heavy. But I have equipped all my cameras that dont have a built in grip (1D and 1DmkII) with the battery grip AND the canon wrist strap.

I walk around carrying the camera (5DmkII) with one hand stuck through the wrist grip and it just hangs there. No need to grasp the camera tightly, it isn't going anywhere with a properly adjusted wrist grip. Only way IMO to handle the camera with the big lens on it......

Once you have had a camera with the wrist strap you will never have one of your cameras without one......it makes gripping the camera and walking around much easier
