Lens' "Sweet Spot"

Each lens has it's own "sweet spot" aperture for the sharpest image. Can we rely on the report from others/review report for each lens or we have to find out/test it ourselves?

Also, once we find out that, should we try to stay with that range for that lens when taking picture or just ignore it and go with what you feel?
