Why is the 7d better than the 50d Image Quality since more megapixels same sensor?

Why is the 7d better than the 50d Image Quality since more megapixels same sensor?

I ask this question because in the dpreview of the 50d they thrash the image quality and state essentially it's because of the 15 megapixels on the APS-C sensor. Yet, I saw nothing like this on the 7d review and I thought it had the same sensor (but with even more mp.)

So how can you have it both ways? Does this mean canon is doing something different in the camera software than they did in the 50d?

Thanks.
