is RAW image always much worse than JPEG

Hi all, as I'm new in the land of RAW phtotography I would like to know how much worse is normal for a RAW file compared to JPEG. Do you normaly have to PP it a lot or is it diffrent from camera to camera. I do know that JPEG is a already processed photo. May be some guys can tell me what comes out of the HS10 RAW is normal.
