70-200 F/4 L IS Macro Question
May 20, 2010

I just sold my 180 L Macro and have ordered a 70-200 L F4 IS. My reasoning for the shift is that I don't actual;ly use the macro lens for anything but butterflies and a few wild flower shots - no true 1/1 macro use at all. The 180 was heavy, had no IS and was very slow to autofocus. I missed a bunch of shots with the fast moving insects. The 70-200 focuses down to 3.9 feet and will go to nearly half life size, is lighter, and has IS. Has anyone used this lens for an application like butterflies and wild flowers? Should I have ordered the new 100 L IS Macro instead? I was afraid I wouldn't have enough reach to get close with a 100MM.
