Can someone please explain the AF system on the MKIV to me?

I'm really confused about the AF settings on the MKIV

I use AF-on button for AF and half press for metering.. so this is what I do ..

If i'm shooting static things - i use one AF point - metering linked to that point and one shot focus setting.

I'm shooting movement - I set to AF servo - hit the AF-on button and let the camera track the subject - but how does the tracking then work - should I be selecting the focus points where they are all illuminated in a circle? or do I keep the centre one lit?

Every time I have use the 'circular' one - i dont seem to be able to get the subject in focus - but they are in the centre of the viewfinder.. am I missing something?

So when shooting sports - what mode in the AF point selection do i use one AF point - or the 'circular' one - and one shot or servo AF..

I am very confused..
