How much does a flash light up a room?

I thought i'd share this with the group. I had my D90 with an 18-55 VR. I was the unofficial photographer at my friends wedding. I was surprised when I took a picture of the photographer when his flash went off.
Oh, and I had a tripod so don't think I have steady hands enough for a 1/2 second shot.
