Should I calibrate my Sekonic lightmeter?
Apr 25, 2010

Quick question: I have a Sekonic L-758DR lightmeter. I'm slowly getting to know it better and using it more, both in ambient and in flash photography.

The other day I was at a shoot with another photographer. His Sekonic lightmeter was 0.5 stop different from mine - and his images seemed better exposed. Usually I am quite content with the result of my light-metered images, however.

  • Should I calibrate my meter?

  • Is there a danger to mess the process up and then screw the meter up?

  • I have a Nikon D700 and D300. Is there a place where profiles for those cameras can be downloaded?

  • The process seems complicated. For those of you who tried it - was it?
