CC and Post-processing advice

Below are the camera JPEG and raw file basic JPEG of one of my favorite pictures from my recent trip to India. It was a spontaneous shot in a dark kitchen. The highlights in the windows are blown, obviously, but the face details are preserved; the steam was luck-of-timing, but it makes the shot for me.

Nikon D90, 35mm f/1.8 AF-S f/1.8 1/60 ISO 1600, aperture priority with spot metering; I did a focus-and-recompose on the face, with the spot metering. But maybe I messed that up?
