On 7D, which AF area should I use for BIF?
Apr 20, 2010

I'm headed down to St Augustine FL tomorrow for a birding fotofest and I'll see lots of birds and BIF. They will be from 20' to 150' from me going after or brings food or sticks for the nests and I'll use either the EF 28-300 or 100-400 lens on the 7D and I'll use P mode or Tv mode. I usually use single point AF mode because most of my subjects are static.

Which AF mode should I use assuming there may be trees or clouds in the background? My choices seem to be:
1. Single point AF
2. Zone AF- manual selection of a zone

3. Auto select 19-point AF- All the AF points are used to focus but this just seems to work in full auto mode or CA mode.

I got this from pages 87 thru 91 in the manual.

Also, I assume I need to shoot AI Servo for the BIF.

Thanks, Kent
