To Filter or Not To Filter?
Apr 20, 2010

I would like people's opinions on whether or not to use a filter for my new Sony 70-400G for protection.

I used a filter on my very first digicam nine years ago but after reading that they frequently cause IQ degradation and/or affect focusing, I took it off and never went back. Five cameras later, including my first dSLR (a100) with my Tamron 18-250, and I still have yet to use a protective filter.

Tomorrow I am due to take delivery on my $1600 Sony 70-400G lens. I've NEVER spent this kind of money on a lens before and something inside is telling me I better reconsider using a protective filter.

Soooo... let me have it... should I use one or not? And if you say to use one, it would really help if you could give me advice as to which one, as I am completely ignorant of such.

aFiveFifty (LOVE this camera!)
aOneHundred (anyone want to buy it?)
