Dilemma: best camera/zoom lens combo for portraits
Apr 9, 2010

Hi everyone,

What do you think is the best combo for portraits in the 100-200mm tele range with a zoom lens?

1- D300 and Nikkor 70-200mm vr2
2- D700 and Nikkor 70-300mm vr2

I already have a D700 with Nikkor 24-70 and the 85mm 1.4 (cream machine), but I need a second body with a telephoto zoom for nice outdoor portraits. I will carry my D700/24-70 AND the other combo, so weight is a factor, BUT image quality too!

Combo 1 have a worst camera in term of bokeh (due to crop factor) and image quality, but the best lens, and it's heavier.

Combo 2 have the best bokeh and image quality camera, but a worst lens. BUT is also lighter and I can compensate the slowest lens with the 2 stop better iso camera

For me each have their advantages, but is almost the same price and have about the same low light handheld capabilities. What would you choose? Don't forget the equipement i already have!

Thank you!
