Hi all,

I am brand new to the DSLR realm. I am just a casual photographer - using Panasonic Lumix TMZ5 point and shoot now. I'm considering making a shift to a entry-level DSLR and have narrowed them down to the Canon Rebel XSi and the Nikon D5000. I am primarily going to be using it for traveling and family events and such.

However, I have heard/read that it's a good idea to invest in a solid DSLR to begin with (instead of an entry-level one) so I was considering the Nikon D90 even though it's a little over my budget.

Any feedback would be highly appreciated!

comparison of the Canon T1i (500D) and Nikon D5000

but you should consider the newer Canon T2i (550D) -
18 megapixels
ISO 100 - 6400 expandable to 12,800
Full HD video 1080p at selectable frame rates

none of the above - the Canon 550D (T2i)
