Re: What do you people think about new chroma NR algorithm in LR3?
In reply to DaddyBit, Mar 23, 2010

Sorry for replying to myself.

I do not know what they've made in Beta2 but NR is a song now.

I've tested it on A700 FW3 images and I am very pleased with the result.

The balance between NR, contrast, detail and sharpness is very good. I think I do not need 3rd party NR plugs with LR3 anymore.

Waiting for commercial release.

I have tested it some time and I disliked what I got.

After removing chroma noise I get more defined and sharp luma noise structure. Yes, image looks crisper but its luma noise is harder to remove with 3rd party progs than the output from LR2.

As a result, after removing luma noise in LR3 output image, it looks more plastic than the one from LR2.

I will install LR3 beta 2 and give it try again with a hope for magic, though I have no high hopes.

If I have time I'll provide comarison between crops from LR2 and LR3.
