Can m4/3 be adaped to 4/3?
Mar 22, 2010

I know that there can be no adapter to attach a m4/3 lens on a 4/3 camera. However, it seems that, though the lens designs are different between m4/3 and 4/3, the focal length ranges and speeds (e.g the 7-14mm, 9-18mm, 14-42mm) are sometimes the same.

For the engineers out there, is this coincidence or is some of the 4/3 R&D useful to m4/3? How about visa versa ? Can lens R&D expenditures be spread over both m4/3 and 4/3? To what degree do you think this is possible?

I ask, as it seems that given the choice few would want to mount the FF 70-300mm on a m4/3 camera, as it is unnecessarily large. If PanOly decide to produce a m4/3 70-300mm, would the R&D that went into this lens allow for the "cheap" development of a new 4/3-specific 70-300mm lens (lighter, smaller, 4/3 image circle, etc.)?

Any and all thoughts appreciated.
