Replace or Repair 580EX

Well,

It was a day I dreaded while shooting this past Saturday. At the very end of the night I heard the POP that nobody likes to hear. My flash had been there for me day in and day out for the past few years.

But now I decide where to go from here. Has anyone actually had them repaired? I called the Canon Service Center where I live and they said they can fix it for $120-$200 depending on how bad it is. But I've also heard the flash is never the same once it is fixed. Now, my alternative is purchasing the 580EX II, but I hear I am better off with the 580EX, as you are some what limited with the II.
