Product shoot - white or green background?

I've done a few product shoots for a company that sells video servers. I'm not an experienced pro in this field but I do use studio lights, soft boxes, etc. The end results are quite good and the customer is very pleased. But, I need some help to cut down on post processing work.
I've been using white roll paper for the background. This works OK but it can be very labor intensive to remove the white background to isolate the gear. Some of the aluminum and silver colored metal on the gear can be too close in color to the white background.
I'm thinking about switching to a green roll paper for the background. There is nothing on the gear that I'm photographing that is green so it seems like this might make it easier to remove the background.
Does anybody else do something like this?
