Video length in HX5V
Mar 11, 2010

There was no mention in Sony brochure or manual. It seems that the maximum video length is 29.5 minutes.

I fully charged the battery and started video recording (AVCHD) and left it.
It stopped at 29.5 min.

I do not know whether it stopped and shut off itself or merely stopped as I left it unattended.

I switched it on and started again. Once again the video length was 29.5 min.

I switched it on and started again, this time it lasted 15 minutes and shut down as battery died.

So the battery life is about 75 minutes of video recording (without zoom or frequent start/stop).

I have not tried mp4 but I guess it is the same. It does not seem to relate to maximum file size as the 2 29.5 min video were over 2GB and different in file size.

This is one minus of HX5V against Panasonic ZS3 as ZS3 continues the video recording until battery dies.
