Good tip and I'm going to give that a shot. But I think it primarily depends on how one holds the camera. I don't hold the camera by the lens / ring. So for me to change the two setting quickly using the dial and the ring requires I change how I hold the camera. The way I hold the camera, my thumb is always reading to work the rear dial. Spin, up, spin (thumb never coming off the dial) takes only a second.
