B-52 aircraft taken with 7-14mm
Mar 5, 2010

A retired B-52 Stratofortress bomber on display at "Wings over the Rockies" air museum, Denver/Aurora, Colorado. B-52's have been in use since 1955 and later versions (B52G and B52H) are still in use today.

The Tail gun on an older model B-52. The gunner used to ride in the back, isolated from the rest of the crew for extended long flights. The ride could be extremely rough. On more modern B52G and H models, the tail gun is operated remotely from the main crew cabin up front. The last combat use on record of a tail gun was December 24, 1972, when the Diamond Lil (now on display at the US airforce academy) was attacked by a North Korean MIG fighter. More modern B-52's are equipped with high speed 20mm canons.
