High cost of EN-EL4A upgrade - worth it?
Mar 2, 2010

I have been seriously considering the upgrade of my D300 MB-D10 grip to the EN-EL4A battery. I have been happy with the EN-EL3A for everday shooting. I do occasionally use the AA holder when shooting sports, though. But, I am having a serous time swallowing the price of the upgrade.

The price of the battery ($110) and door ($40) at B&H don't really bother me. But my gosh, $125 for a charger!! That brings the grand total to $275 for just one battery (i.e. no spare). With Duracell AA's running $9 for a pack of 20 at WalMart, that is almost 600 AA batteries! Who knows how long it would take me to use that many AA's.

I am curious, do those of you that have an EN-EL4A leave it in the camera all the time? Or do you just use it when shooting sports? I really want to talk myself into this upgrade but don't know if the occasional sports shoot is worth it.
