Dynalite 804 buying advice please

Hi Folks,

I have line on a set of Dynalite 804s with 3 fan-cooled heads, all reportedly working perfectly, but they appear to be '80s era. The seller is asking $600 for three packs/3 heads, plus some accessories. Is this a good deal, or would I be walking into a quagmire of problems?

I've read some threads here about the older packs having trouble with shorting when disconnecting lights ... is this a major concern, or does one easily learn to power down before disconnecting lights?

I've got a portrait project that I want to work on and I'm thinking that this would be a cost effective approach. I've been debating using TTL strobes like the 580EX, or going with Alien Bees, but the price for these Dyanlites is hard to pass off.

Your knowledge/experience with these lights would be much appreciated.
