More signs of Nikon MILC ('mirrorless') plans

is a clear indication that Nikon sees mirrorless Interchangeable Lens Compacts having an important place in photography, while to being a major threat to DSLRs:
"He rejected suggestions that the other manufacturers mirrorless systems represent a threat to Nikons low-end DSLRs, and said instead that the new segment is 'an opportunity' for all manufacturers, not only Nikon ... In some categories of the market, Mr Sasagaki told us that he expects mirrorless cameras will become the norm , but not in all."
This suggests that Nikon is planning a MILC system of the smaller "digicam on steroids" type (E-P1, GF-1, E-P2 E-LP1, and Sony's) rather than the "DSLR-lite" type (G1, GH1, NX).
