When you are close to your subject the P&S can achieve OOF areas, and in some cases Bokeh.

Here's an example, Lumix FZ30 about 2 feet from the small dragonfly, chain link fence behind the subject about 12 inches. Also I was actually trying to achieve more DOF not less, this was taken at f/11.

Here again you can see the body of this anole is already going OOF the flowers are literally inches behind the anole, this was also from about 2 feet.

However if I wanted to take a portrait and have the background a creamy blur I sure wouldn't use my P&S.
