Moving to GF1 from old compact (DSC V3) - lens speed of 14-45 vs old
Feb 19, 2010

Hi all,

First, thanks for everyone's posts on this forum, I've learnt loads while lurking!

I'm moving up to a GF1 from my broken Sony DSC V3 - a 2004 7MP compact with manual controls (similar to Canon G6).

My question: How does the GF1 with 14-45 compare to this old camera, which has a faster lens on paper , on interiors with moving people? Could I up the ISO on the GF1, use the same shutter speed as the Sony, and get a similar/better result?

Sony: f2.8, ISO up to 800.
GF1: f3.5 14-45 GF1 lens preferred

I've really got no idea how differences in sensitivity, lenses, stabilisation etc. would make the two compare as regards noise & blur. Anyone else made a similar move?

I realise the 20mm would be a better choice, but the flexibilty of the 14-45 is appealing.

Thanks in advance!
