IQ problems using polarized filter
Feb 18, 2010

Hey people,

I would like to ask you something about polarized filters. I noticed that my camera delivers very poor IQ when a linear Marumi polarizer is attached. This is very visible when the zoom is at the top 12X (optical, not digital). The IQ turns better if I lower the zoom, anyway a little bad IQ remains at 1X but not as unpleasant as when 12X. I did several tries focusing manually and tripod mounted but it didn´t work out. By the other hand, there is no IQ problem when a Hoya 1A filter is attached, so it seems to be a problem related to polarized filter exclusively. Do you have any idea about it?. When I bought the filter the vendor tried to sell me a “digital” circular polarizer. But I chose a ordinary linear one because I knew that my camera does not need circular to get the right focus, and I thought that a filter for “digital” was a trick.
Thanks for helping!
