RIP Micro Nikkor 70-180

Once upon a time, there was an awesome Nikon Micro Nikkor 70-180 macro zoom lens. Working distance was less than a foot and it was the perfect lens for all kinds of product and casual macro work.

Of course, Nikon discontinued the lens a number of years ago and they go for nearly twice their original asking price - if you can find one. Any suggestions on what current lens comes closest to filling these shoes?
