EF 100mm macro for my 7D
Feb 5, 2010

Hi all,

I was wondering if you can help me to decide. I'm thinking about adding a new lens to my gear. The Canon EF 100 mm 2.8 seems to be a good match, but I have several questions. Quick background info first, I have a 7D that is usually paired with 17-55 f/2.8. Most of the photography I do is of my little girls (1 year old) and I never had a macro lens before:

1) Should I go for the new IS or the old one is good enough? In other words, will I really appreciate the IS? In particular, will I appreciate the IS when shooting non-macro photography?

2) How useable is the lens for non-macro? I was planning to use it a lot for portraits and just walk around photography

Any comments are welcome

Thanks,
