paint finish on 20/1.7

I was cleaning the pany 20/1.7 lens with dry soft micro-fibre cloth the other day, and on the rim of the lens, a 2mm wide paint coating seems to have been polished off.

Is this normal? I do use the lens carefully, and did wipe too hard? Or it is a quality issue?
