Nikon 85mm versus Tokina 100mm macro lenses
Feb 1, 2010

I've been doing quite a a bit of research regarding macro lenses by Tamron, Sigma, Nikon and Tokina, and since my budget is tight these days I need to stay around $500 max.

Here are the lenses I'm most interested on:

-> Nikon 85mm f/3.5G AF-S DX Micro ED (VR-II)
-> Tokina AT-X 100mm f/2.8 PRO D Macro Lens

Based on my research, the Tokina is an excellent lens that beats the Tamron 90mm and the Sigma 105mm macro lenses. The Nikon is a pretty new lens and haven't been able to read much about it except for the fact that I have a very good experience with Nikkor lenses and believe their products to be top notch.

Should I sacrifice speed (f/2.8 vs. f/3.5) for Vibration Control? Or go with the additional 15mm offered by the Tokina?

If you have some info please help me make a good decision here.

Thank you very much!
