Contrary to other information, mirror lenses CAN zoom: Pentax made a 400-600 mirror zoom. The only one I know of, true... There even is one on sale right now I just discovered: check eBay, German seller, they even offer a Canon EOS adapter.

I think the most important reasons for no "big brands" Nikon and Canon mirror lenses anymore are:

1. No AutoFocus, No IS, you need a tripod or another device to keep such a long lens steady.
2. lots of very cheap alternatives.
