Another vote for Windows Home Sever
In reply to kkenn, Jan 20, 2010

I buiilt my own from generic parts, some of which I had lying around collecting dust.

My Windows Home Server has room for 15 hard dirves, currently has a little over 16 Tbytes of disk space. It pulls just under 200 watts.

Because it is generic PC parts, it is easy to get a replacement part for it. The data is not striped, it is duplicated on seperate drives. If the server dies, the data is still avaiable on the disk drives in standard NFS format.

With a GigE interface, the data is quick to retrieve.
