How 2 Get Rid of Office 2007?

This may be a little off topic but I am sure someone here knows how to do this.

I have a new computer with Win 7 and an office 2007 "trial" came pre-installed. I have Office 2003 and I see no reason to upgrage. Anytime I open a Word or Excel file from the desktop it automatically opens into Office 2007. I have changed file preferences to point to the office 2003 files but it makes no difference - 2007 still opens and prompts me for a registration key. If I close 2007 and open 2003 it prompts me to install the program.

Others have reported this same issue. Microsoft has intentionally made this such a pain in the butt that many people will pay the upgrade price just to get rid of the issue. There is no doubt that is their intent. I'm not going to do that.

Anyone else with this issue who can give me an idea how to fix it?
