D300s Noise (pci included)

OK can someone help me out with what I'm doing wrong here. I thought the D300s would be great at higher ISO's but I must be doing something wrong.

This was shot on Christmas with two flashes. One flash shooting into a 45" white umbrella and the other shooting through one of those small softbox type attachments on a SB-600. I used a flash trigger not the commander mode. I know the shadows are a little much on the one side (had about 5 minutes to set everything up and shoot) and will work on my lighting technique next. My real question is why is this so noisey? I attached two images the jpeg out of the camera and the converted RAW file that has been sharpened and some noise reduction applied.

The camera settings were: f8, 1/60, ISO 800 the main flash was at about 1/8th power if I remember correctly at 45* and 4-5 feet away on the subjects right side. The fill flash was set at 1/4 power at 45*.
