1D Mark III Buyer's Remorse?
Dec 25, 2009

I'm an amateur who shoots lots of wildlife and BIF. I currently use a 1D Mark II that I bought when it first came out. It works fine but I don't like its high ISO performance and I seem to get a lot of out of focus shots. I'm retired so can't afford a Mark IV when it comes out. I have been debating between a Mark III and 7D. I really like the professional construction (weather proofing and shock resistance) and the ability to use a 1.4x on my 500 and still get full autofocusing in the Mark III. But 7D is a lot cheaper and offers more megapixels. Just before Christmas the Mark III price dropped and B&H was offering free overnight shipping and an extended return policy. Canon was offering an essentially-free Pixma 9500 Mark II printer via rebate if you bought a Mark III, too. So I bought the pair. I like the Mark III camera but am worrying if I should have bought the 7D, gotten more modern technology and saved $2000. What do you think?
