D3 ERR at high apertures

I have a 2.5 year old D3 (about 10K shutter attuations) that locks with the ERR message when I shoot with apertures 5.6 or higher. The problem happens with both my 70-200VR and with the 24-70. Even hitting the "depth of field preview" causes the error.

I´m in the middle of a trip now. Any suggestions on what I could do other than shooting 2.8 all the time?

I´ve cleaned the contacts but the problem persists.

I´m planning to send the camara for service when I get back.
